Show Me The Runway

I have been watching a lot of the latest runway shows from the high end fashion houses of the world and I have chosen Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2011 collection and Chanel's Spring/Summer Ready-To-Wear 2010 collection as two of the best.

Enjoy Alexander McQueen's exaggerated idealism of the feminine form with his Women's Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

Chanel's Spring/Summer Ready-To-Wear 2010 collection at the Grand Palais in Paris is so grand it's almost overwhelming.

Bottle

Every now and again I come across something so simple and beautiful that it makes our lives seem so unnecessarily complicated. LA based animation student Kirsten Lepore's short film Bottle has deservedly won Best Student Film at 2010 International Animation Film Festival. I am so impressed that I felt the need to share it all with you. Enjoy.

"Just Hair" Collection

Hair - David Murry
Photography - James Goss
Makeup - Sarah Laidlaw

The Just Hair Collection was shot over 2 years ago but it still surprises me how attached I am to the images. It was shot with the intention to gain one of four places on the 2008 Australian FAME Team which I was successful in being apart of. I feel like this collection was responsible for igniting my passion in hairdressing photography and what it can do for a young stylist career.

Full creative license was given to photographer James Goss from Bon Bon Photography but it has to be said that what makeup artist Sarah Laidlaw can do with a spray gun is genius. The name and concept of Just Hair was born from my vision to create a collection of pictures that focused on just hair and the decision to use white on white and no styling was important in staying true to the original concept.

I hope enjoy the collection.

We Love Kate!

Men want to have her, women want to be her and the world can’t get enough of her. Kate Moss continues to grace the pages of glossy fashion magazines all around the world so, what makes her so enduring as a model? "I guess I'm adaptable, Moss said. "I don't know, I kind of go with whatever they want. I don't see myself as one thing. You know, I turn up at work and they can kind of do what they want with me, really!  It's not like there is one look that I specifically do - I've done a lot of different things."

Kate has personally selected five pictures of herself for a limited edition portfolio. She has chosen a black and white image taken by her then boyfriend Mario Sorrenti in the early 90's as her favorite image taken of herself. "I think probably Mario Sorrenti print, the first black-and-white one in the series," she told the New York Times. "Even though I wasn't that naïve at the time, I really look it. I was in a relationship with him at the time and it was a very intense period of my life - it was my growing up stage. I think I was 18 or something. I'd left London and went to New York and everything started to happen."

So which is your favorite?

Finalists Announced

There has been much excitement and suspense for all of us in November and the hairdressing industry has not been spared with the announcement of finalist for the 2011 Australian Hair Fashion Awards. I was lucky enough to collaborate with Laura MacLeod, owner of The Ruby Room, who in her first year as Creative Director was named a finalist for Queensland Hairdresser of the Year and Australian Creative Colourist.

Ravish Collection by Laura MacLeod

On the other side of the world the winning collections for the 2010 British Hair Fashion Awards were announced at a gala awards night in London and as always the British did not disappoint. These winning collections will provide much inspiration for Australian collections being shot at the moment for the 2011 Hair Expo Awards. I shot the Dynasty Collection last year for these awards and will be shooting again so stay tuned to The Monobrow as the creative juices bubble.

The Savage

I recently had the pleasure of rubbing shoulders with fellow art enthusiasts at an exhibition for one of Australia’s most significant younger artists Michael Zavros.  The exhibition entitled "The Savage", was held at Phillip Bacon Galleries and was a great success for the young artist with the majority of pieces being snapped up by serious collectors and galleries around the world.  Even though the price point is little above affordability for the average person we can still enjoy his unique works with a focus on fashion, classical mythology, and French neo classical architecture.

"The Good Son",  is a behind the scene's look at works on paper by Michael Zavros that exhibited at the Gold Coast City Art Gallery.

I discovered Influencers while reading the latest issue of Map Magazines online Street Editors.  Before watching this short film make sure you have an uninterrupted 15 minutes so you can fully absorb the message.  Influencers has reignited the excitement I have for my goals in 2011 and I hope it does the same for you all. Remember...think BIG, dream BIG, achieve BIG!

Ksubi Eye Collection

Every one who wears frames knows that after a year with the same pair you became very uninspired catching your reflection.  Geek is cool and the fact you don't hold a prescription shouldn't hold you back from entering the world of eye fashion.  Ksubi’s new eye collection is where I would start looking if you're searching to make a statement.  The hair is also equally as impressive paying homage to a strong post war feel under the direction of Danae Selwood from Headcase in Paddington Sydney - “I wanted to create a look that reflected a utilitarian style but also keeping the look disheveled, modern and edgy – so that it falls inline with the brands identity”.

I love everything about this shoot but if Ksubi frames are a little out of your budget especially if you don't have to wear frames then I have a little secret I'd like to share with you all...ASOS!  I recently discovered some really cheap fun fashion frames online and after receiving my order within 2 weeks I was pleasantly surprised with the quality.  I LOVE ONLINE SHOPPING! Have a little fun and step outside your comfort zone and try something a little different.
